Accountability & Consent

This page outlines Elevation Rope's procedures for addressing concerns related to organizational accountability and consent violations.

Elevation Rope is dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. We believe in taking responsibility for actions and addressing situations that violate our values or policies, whether involving ourselves, staff, volunteers, presenters, or attendees.

Our Approach

Accountability:  We recognize that even well-intentioned players make mistakes or misjudgments, but we hold ourselves to a high standard for our actions. We commit to addressing any such situations, and believe in addressing situations that violate our values or policies, both at our events and within the kink community.

Consent:  All attendees, staff, volunteers, and presenters are expected to uphold a high standard of consent. This means obtaining unambiguous consent for all interactions, including physical touch. Consent is expected to be obtained during each and every interaction, and can be withdrawn at any time.

Key Points:

  • Separate procedures exist for organizational accountability and consent violations.

  • Reports can be made in person or online.

  • We prioritize addressing situations that require immediate action.

Reporting Procedures

How to file a report:

  1. In-Person Reports: For immediate concerns, you can report incidents in-person directly to an event organizer or staff member. We will make every effort to address the situation during the event if you require immediate action.

  2. Online Reports: For situations that do not require immediate action or for greater privacy, we provide online reporting forms:

    • Organizational Accountability: Our third-party organizational accountability pod is available for reporting concerns about the organization’s behavior or decisions. The "organization" is defined as staff, facilitators, volunteers, and vendors.  You do not need to include your full story in your initial email—please reach out to the pod via email and they will follow up with a form for you to complete.

    • Incident Report: This form is used to report incidents of consent violations or other concerning interactions at our event and/or in the greater community. It will be sent directly to event organizers for appropriate action. You can find and fill out this form here.

Confidentiality

While reports are not anonymous, they are confidential. In some cases, the event organizers may need the general nature of the concern to ensure a safe environment.

Response Process

Organizational Accountability:

1. Once the form has been submitted, the pod will begin internal dialogue around reporter-led follow-up options requested in the form, and send an initial response acknowledging receipt within 5 days—sooner if there is an immediate need.

2. The following steps are defined by the needs of the reporter and can include: reaching out to you and the organization to gather information and discuss the issue, seek repair through mediated conversation or an accountability agreement, community education etc.

All steps in the process are approved by the person reporting the issue. Their consent to participate or have information shared will determine the course of action. â€‹

Incident Report:

1. When we receive your form, we will discuss the situation among our event organizers unless you've told us you don't want a specific person involved. If you say on the form you want to discuss further with us, we will reach out to you. At least two organizers will be involved in conversations. We will do our best to work with those who report in a way they feel most comfortable.

2. If permitted, we will follow up with other people involved to tell them we have received a report and offer them the opportunity to discuss the situation with us.

3. We may follow up with additional questions with everyone’s permission to do so.

4. We will decide if action needs to be taken if we feel the situation poses a danger to participants in our events. We will do our best to respect how the person who reports to us wants the matter to be handled.

5. We will notify the people involved of our decision (unless someone has requested we don’t).

Response Timeline

We prioritize addressing urgent matters promptly. However, please be aware that online reports may take time to be reviewed, especially after events.

We take creating a safe space seriously. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
